Well the heat is on!!! July and August are famous for the summer heat, beach trips and assorted vacations!
I see many churches dealing with some of their folks missing church events because of summer trips. The summer vacation is what the schools called it.
When I was growing up on the tobacco farm, summer vacation meant working all summer long in very hot and dirty situations. It was not much of a vacation to ME. We would work most days till dark.
One of our fields came up to the back of a little Baptist church and on Wednesday nights I could hear that preacher yelling and shouting while the service was going on.
I was brought up going to a Methodist church where everything and everybody was quiet so I was intrigued as to why their service was so noisy? At the age of 14, I had also began to like a girl in my class at school and she invited me to go to church with her and I said absolutely!
It was the church that joined our tobacco field. The church where that preacher was so loud!
We sat on the back row holding hands, chewing gum and breaking the rules. That preacher was yelling, shouting, red in the face and spitting on the front row saying “YOU MUST BE BORN AGAIN”. He said Jesus is waiting for you to say yes to him and he will be with you for the rest of your life as your friend. He said come up here and I will introduce you to him!
I got up and walked down that isle and prayed with him and accepted Jesus and his plan for my life! That was 50 years ago and I still go back to that same small church and pray regularly!
Each summer, I return to that place behind that church and thank God for what He did and what He is still doing!
I want to give you a quick update on some of the things God is still doing!
I have won 14 comedy awards in Nashville, Pigeon Forge, West Plains, MO, Somerset, KY with ICGMA, CGMA, Christian Voice Magazine and ICM. I am honored and thankful that folks have liked what I do but no more awards please. I have no plans to do those events again. I still love ministry and entertaining folks, especially now folks who are my age and older!
As YOU well know, our lives are filled with changes. The changes in ministry for me now reflect my new burden and calling for ministry in Nursing Homes and Assisted Living Facilities.
I am now on rotation for:
Four facilities King and Walnut Cove, NC
Two in Kernersville, NC
Two in Stokesdale, NC
One in Madison, NC
I just did two in Hurricane, W.Va.
All these are at no charge!
Most church services do love offerings and most big shows I do pay me a fee and I have product sales at these events. None of this is possible at Senior Living Facilities. It is kind of funny but I am actually a little excited to see how God will work it out for me to continue!
I know that God has called me to do this. God is in control and I am moving in that direction!
So thankful for so many of you that have been and still continue to sow into this ministry with your financial and prayer support. Thank you for your prayers and support to Agape Ministries, Inc. 501(c) 3.
